PA Lyme Resource Network’s (www.palyme.org) Dare 2B Tick Aware ProgramTM was originally created with a CDC Preventative Health Block Grant via the PA Department of Health. The goal is to improve the use of prevention strategies, reduce tick bites, and improve early diagnosis. This program uses the most current research available and standardizes prevention messages across the state. The program is typically 45 minutes – 1 hour, + time for Q & A.
Program content includes: PA Stats Tick i.d. Tick habitat Tick behavior Lyme and tick-borne diseases Prevention options Acting if bitten by a tick Recognizing early symptoms
Facilitator: Andrea Halfhill, Certified Dare 2B Tick Aware Facilitator
Andrea Halfhill has a background in biology and works for Gibson-Thomas Engineering as an Environmental Scientist. She is a Pennsylvania Master Naturalist and volunteers with the Westmoreland Conservancy. She has a strong passion for animals and the environment and enjoys promoting the importance of backyard habitats for wildlife.
**Reminder - The Dare 2B Tick Aware presentation is a seminar about tick i.d, tick behavior, tick habitat, tick removal and tick bite prevention options. While there are a few slides regarding Lyme disease and other tick-borne infection symptoms, this is not a Lyme disease seminar. Facilitators do not discuss diagnosis, testing or treatment.
